On the internet you can find plenty of helpful lists of design guidelines and usability patterns. There are so many, that's not really worth writing about. But today I found something really cool! An excellent resource for web designers who are trying to just not do it well: "The Golden Rules for Bad User Interfaces" by the SAP project guild.
Frankly, as much humor on this subject did not expect from boys (SAP and SAP who has ever seen in action knows that he can still improve their usefulness in a bit!) Anyway, here's Top 10 rules for bad usefulness of the project (but not on their website.) Usability testing to check:
Rule No. 1: Keep the users unnecessary busy work!
Explanation: Users want to be helpful, even to computers. Provide them with sufficient opportunities to live their altruism - it makes you feel good.
Rule # 2: Do not follow the standards!
Justification: The primary users of Standards showing rigid habits and to develop certain expectations as to the application. Train their real-life lesson: today, users must, be flexible and open.
Rule # 3: Do it slowly!
Justification: Most offices have become very busy and stressful these days. An avalanche of phone calls, e-mails and hail down for office workers. Free software is an opportunity to go back and live the life of Buddhist calm office.
Principle # 4: Use abbreviations whenever possible (even if there is not enough space for full terms)
Justification: Abbreviations make an application look more professional, especially if you create abbreviations that are new or replace the commonly used.
Principle 5: Education of users in technical language
Justification: Lifelong learning is hot, and people get used to it. Do not disappoint them and on this occasion from them on your site. Moreover, sociologists complain that vocabulary people are more and more reductions. Conclusion difficult vocabulary may occur against this trend.
Article # 6: Hide important and frequently used functions from the user view
Justification: The hidden gadgets (like milk in the supermarket) in the last corner site, people will discover your site and eventually buy more (the "IKEA effect")!
Principle No. 7: Make the mouse, only applications and offers no shortcuts.
Rationale: This app completely inaccessible to the visually impaired. Therefore, you can skip all the other things as well as availability. This will save you a lot of development time.
Principle 8: Make an application using a real challenge!
Justification: This teaches people to take more risk, which is important particularly in economically difficult times.
Rule # 9: Keep away from end users!
Explanation: You are an expert and know what users need - your experience, pay for education, so why would they know better right?
Rule # 10: Spread the message of bad examples and live it!
Justification: Examples are an excellent method of teaching. But as we all know, learn most of the incidents so as to show its bad examples - they are the most charm.
