whats a good beverage to drink before you sing?

i'm not a very good singer, but sometimes my voice gets scratchy when i sing. i've heard warm dr pepper is good for your voice, and i heard that honey is good. what else ?

Generally if you're singing, keep away from caffeine and fizzy drinks. Also, make sure that you're hydrating yourself well before you need to sing, and try not to guzzle drinks right before you have to sing - if you drink a skinful of water right before you sing, you only dry yourself out more. I often drink a small glass of apple juice - its alkalinity is similar to that of the voice, and so doesn't dry you out any more. Also, steaming is great for your voice, as it really cleans all your cavities out. I wouldn't do it right before I needed to sing though. Always make sure you keep away from really acidic food, and try not to clear your throat. Now I've given you all my secrets!
